Facing the work that inspired me
Some time ago I painted my own homage to Sandro Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. I have always admired this painting and all it represents in art history.
Later I visited the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and finally saw it in person. It was a special moment. After working on my interpretation, standing before the original felt different. I could appreciate details, colours and nuances no photograph can show.
It was an emotional experience and a way to close a small circle: first my homage was born, then came the encounter with the work that inspired it.
Some paintings leave a mark — and this, without doubt, is one of them.
